SourceGrid 1.2.11.0 is a light grid control written in C# that will allow programmers to add basic grid capabilities to their .NET Windows Forms applications. Apps using the control can display and edit unbound data. The author feels that the DataGrid class of Microsoft’s .NET Framework relies too much on the DataSet class: the control always has to be bound to a dataset or other source for its data. Others consider that the DataSet class is too slanted towards working with XML documents. The SourceGrid control allows simple data to be displayed, without relying on XML to do it. However, while the SourceGrid control is potentially useful for simple applications, it lacks more advanced features offered by other grid controls. For example, SourceGrid lacks databinding. Databinding is the ability to automatically update data from a source that is “bound” to an object, which can mean virtually real-time data access. Without the ability to display bound data, developers must code the data updating themselves, which is costly in time and money. SourceGrid of course provides for unbound data. Any .NET control can be contained in CellControl. The grid control lacks an IDE designer and other advanced WYSIWYG features. It provides no printer support, and lacks grouping and master/detail capabilities.

Teroid Grid Control License: Freeware

There are plenty of grid controls around, including the DataGrid supplied with Visual Studio .NET, but this one fills the need for a simple, no frills control. It has a collection of rows and columns which can be added to or deleted from, and an automatically maintained collection of cells. It is therefore as easy to program as, for example, a ListBox, ListControl or TreeControl, and is an ideal complement to these.

MetaTron License: Freeware

Multiplayer Tron clone for up to 10 Players on one Machine. Drive on the game grid against your human and computer opponents. Try to kill the others, and to survive yourself. Maybe you'll even manage to escape the grid. Absolutely addictive mutiplayer action. Do not expect fancy graphics, expect a game which is really a lot of fun to play with your friends. Do not try this alone. As a single player game it really sucks, except for practicing purposes. Short instructions: every player needs just two keys, one for a 90 degree turn to the left, and one for a 90 degree turn to the right. These game keys can be configured absolutely freely. Try to survive as long as possible. If someone crashes into a wall, you can try to escape the grid.

IconoMaker License: Freeware
IconoMaker allows you to edit icons. It supports the new icon format introduced in Windows XP (employs smooth transparency and other visual effects). Using this program you can create and edit icons in either standard or custom sizes, with color depths up to 32-bit True Color with 8-bit alpha channel. Paint tools include: color replacer, color selector, spray can, pencil, brush, flood fill, text tool, line tool, rectangle, curve and ellipse. For Windows XP icons, you get to use semi-transparency. Launching IconoMaker opens a window with a interface similar to the Windows paint program. You can set IconoMaker to open to a new icon window or nothing. The new icon window shows a grid display with the grid matching the resolution of the icon you want to create. Along the left side are a set of drawing tools typical to most paint programs, including a color picker, eraser, pencil, air brush, paint brush and bucket (flood fill), text, rectangles, ellipses and lines. On the right side of the grid is a color chart (256) to choose from 256 colors. The grid overlay is tabbed, allowing you to open and work on more than one icon, either different sizes of the same icon, or completely different icons. Also shown on the right is a display of how your icon(s) appears actual size. With these tools, anyone can take advantage of the grid overlay and fill in the squares to create an icon that maximizes your artistic skills. And it's free!

Minefield License: Freeware
Minefield is a game in which you have to bring as many men as you can across the minefield to safety (marked by a blue flag). You start at the bottom right square of a grid of up to 20 x 15 squares and use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move your man towards the flag. You die if he steps on a mine (duh!). The minefield is randomly generated when you start a game, but the mines stay where they are throughout the game so you have to try to remember where they are. In addition to the mines, you also have to avoid up to 2 snakes and 2 ghosts. Snakes can only move on squares which do not contain mines, whereas ghosts can move anywhere in the grid. You may, on occasion, pick up a map or invincibility potion. The map shows you the location of every mine in the grid, whereas the potion makes you invincible (ie. cannot be killed by mine, snake nor ghost), for a period of time. You may sometimes also be blown to another square by a strong gust of wind (this can only happen if you step on a square that does not contain a mine). Minefield has plenty of customizable settings. It is also skinable - you can replace all the graphics with your own.

Mallet Mania License: Freeware
Mallet Mania is a game of logic and skill. The interface has been designed to resemble the popular Windows game Minesweeper, but the game itself is a brand-new concept. The aim of the game is to flatten every grey square on the grid as fast as possible - the numbers tell you how many times each square needs to be hit before it's flattened. The problem is that the mallet you use to hit them with isn't a very precise instrument, and it will hit 4 squares (in a 2x2 block) at the same time. What's more, hitting areas that are already flat would cause a dent and is not allowed, so completing the grid isn't as easy as it looks... This game needs a quick eye and a fair amount of thought to win, but when you've got the knack, you can upload your best times to see how you rank against other players around the world!

Escape is a tile-based puzzle game in the style of "Adventures of Lolo" or "Chip's Challenge." Unlike either of those games, Escape doesn't rely at all on reflexes--it's all about your brain. The game is played on a grid in wich the player must manipulate blocks, lasers, switches, and other devices in order to reach the exit. Of course, this is more easily said than done! Although Escape comes with hundreds of levels, the game places an emphasis on the composition of new puzzles. Thus Escape has a built-in level editor and facilities for automatically sharing puzzles with other players.
