blueshell ADO Survey Kit  License: Freeware

bAsk - the blueshell ADO Survey Kit - is a new diagnostic toolkit for ADO programmers. It presents viewers for all types of ADObjects. bAsking is better than debugging! It's freeware! Link bask.dll to your VB project and view all your ADObjects! You may include calls to bAsk in your program code or you may use it from Visual Basic's Immediate window. View DataEnvironments, Forms with bAt Controls, recordsets, fields, catalogs and more. Calling the viewer There is a (and currently only one) simple interface to bAsk: The method View. It takes any bAsk-visible object as its argument. It automatically detects the type of the object and routes it to the appropriate viewer. Examples: => View DataEnvironment1: Views the Data Environment named DataEnviroment1 => View Forms: Views the Forms collection of your VB application => View rec1: Views a recordset named rec1 => blueshellAsk.View rec1: Same as above, using full qualified identification (in case you have another Sub called "View"). You may look at the examples "Northwind" and "Scott" supplied with blueshell Active Tables and see how they are using bAsk.

 XSL-FO Debugger  License: Freeware

XSL-FO Debugger is the software for visual debugging of XSL stylesheets. It is based on Altsoft Xml2PDF formatting engine. In short, XSL-FO Debugger takes an XSL-FO file or a pair of XML and XSLT files as an input, follows XSL-FO formatting instructions and generates a PDF document as an output. The resulting PDF file may contain layers for displaying boxes (these are content box, allocation box, border box and padding box), baseline tables and breaks for the groups of FO objects and particular FO objects as well. The XSL-FO specification can be very intricate when you are trying to find out what's wrong with this or that FO document. In fact, it is often not so easy to answer many tricky questions that arise when you create a document with a complex structure and thousands of objects. Why are these nested blocks not present on where they should be? What happened to that line? Where on earth is the header? Is it my error or I should send a letter to the producer of my formatter? Xsl-Fo Debugger helps you to avoid spending precious time on re-calculating object parameters, re-reading specification and revising your code. It introduces the visual representation of all basic document areas, baseline tables and breaks generated by the formatter so that you can find irritating shortcomings as fast as possible. What is even more convenient you may select the areas or baselines to be displayed. You may also change the color or opacity of displayed objects as it is described in the following sections. In addition, a separate PDF layer is created for each class of debugged objects, which makes your PDF document interactive and allows turning on/off the particular layers. This feature makes Xsl-Fo Debugger much more applicable and flexible tool. And here the time of your own fantasy and creativity begins!

AOS - Error Handling Objects  License: Freeware

AOS - Error Handling Objects for Visual Basic provide detailed reporting of unexpected errors within VB applications and components. All errors are simultaneously logged to the NT Event log (if running on NT/2000/XP), to an XML file, and output to the Windows debug output. By using a debug viewer, such as DebugView from Sysinternals, application errors can be viewed in real-time within the LAN. Ideal for debugging n-tierapplications.

 XML Marker  License: Freeware

XML Marker is an XML Editor that uses a synchronized table-tree-and-text display to show you both the hierarchal and the tabular nature of your XML data. It automatically produces a tabular display of any selected tag by collecting repeating attribute and tag names and then arranging them into columns. The result is a clutter-free and informative tabular display. The implementation is very efficient in memory and CPU resources so you can quickly navigate through very large XML files - up to hundreds of megabytes and even gigabytes of XML data on a standard personal computer. XML Marker is the perfect tool to work with plain-text debugging output and log files. You can dramatically increase their usefulness by modifying your programs to produce them in XML format. After that, you can use the graphical features of XML Marker to spot hidden trends and to solve your bugs faster. More features include table sorting, syntax-highlighting editor, automatic indentation/pretty-printing of exiting code, drill down and as-you-type syntax checking.

 Fping  License: Freeware

Ping is one of the most useful network debugging tools available. The first ping program was written by Mike Muuss in December 1983 for use on Unix machines. Muuss named his program after the sonar sounds used for echolocation by submarines, although some say ping stands for "Packet InterNet Grouper". Ping sends a small packet of information containing an ICMP ECHO_REQUEST to a specified computer, which then sends an ECHO_REPLY packet in return. The ping program then evaluates this reply, and a report is shown. You can check several things with the ping program: can you reach another computer, how long does it take to bounce a packet off of another site (what is the distance), ... You can ping either a domain name, or an IP address. Functionality to show domain names when using IP addresses is supported. Even routing options are available, alas only 9 routes can be shown due to the structure of the IP header (RFC 792). Why did I write my own ping program? There are two main reasons: a) It wanted to know how the ping program worked. I found it really intriguing and was very curious and b) There was a need for a better ping program here at the lab where I work.

 Linspect Commander  License: Freeware

Linspect Commander is a software utility for Windows. It allows you to execute commands on remote Linux or Unix servers over an SSH-secured connection without logging in and running the commands manually. Linspect Commander can be useful for system administrators and programmers who often need to restart various server-side components (servers, daemons or other running programs) in order to do the development/debugging. It comes really handy even if you are setting up a Linux/Unix system and need to restart e.g. Samba, Tomcat, or the whole server to apply the new configuration. Using Linspect Commander you can set up commands you use most frequently and run them just by choosing a server from the list and clicking a desired command button. Upon executing a command you will also see the output it produces in the console window. This way you can easily find out e.g. what is the current status of a running server system (who is logged in, what is in the access log etc.). You can also customize each command and save your preferences for future use. Linspect Commander does not keep the connection open. It connects to a server just when you execute a command. It waits for the output (or for a timeout of 15 seconds) and disconnects from the server. Linspect Commander allows you to execute commands on remote Linux/Unix systems by clicking buttons on your Windows desktop. It is secure and easy to use.
