SNMP Test for routers is a tool which can query and monitor any SNMP-compatible device but it is especially designed to test SNMP router compatibility.
The first part of the test queries the system name and system description strings, the forwarding flag and enumerates all the exposed interfaces.
The 2nd part of the test monitors SNMP traps from the device (your system must be configured to receive traps from the device). While the monitoring is running, trigger some events e.g. connection and disconnection of the Internet line and see if those events are reported in the application.

Paessler SNMP Tester

With Paessler SNMP Tester you can run simple SNMP requests against a device in your network. During the test each single step of the SNMP request is logged into a logfile for analysis. The idea of this free program is to debug SNMP requests down to the protocol level in order to find communication and/or data problems in SNMP monitoring configurations.
Just follow these simple instructions:
1) Download Paessler SNMP Tester and run the snmptest.exe file.
2) Enter the IP address of your device and select the SNMP port and the SNMP community string.
3) Select a request type:
(a) MIB2 Interface: Reads the traffic counter of a port according to the MIB2 OID
(b) Custom OID: Enter a custom OID value to access any OID value on the device
(c) Device Uptime: Reads the standard system uptime value from the device
4) It may be necessary to select a specific local IP for the SNMP request (usually only necessary for multi homed systems)
5) Click on "Run Test" to start the testing process.
6) During the test you will find detailed information in the logfile window.

What does it do and how does it work?
Inftraf is a tool that requests IN/OUT octet data (MIB2) from SNMP-capable
network interfaces. You can use this program in a professional network
environment to monitor selected network interfaces (even backplane ports
if the device provides the information) or you can monitor your home network
or cable/modem/ISDN connection to the internet. You can monitor bits/sec,
utilization and accumulated traffic.
Enter IP address and SNMP read community into the fields and click on FIRST
CONTACT. The program will then try to retrieve all interface information of
the device. If successful, this will enable the START POLLING button. Select
a polling interval and an interface and start polling.
Values in graph are calculated and shown as either bits or bytes per second
or utilization in percent. Just select the appropriate graph.
Error messages are shown in the statusbar.
Other functions provided:
- Show device information
- Reset all values and graphs
- Options dialog
- Two log variations: normal log also shown in GUI and a debug log that shows
all polling information that was retrieved. Both can be written to files.

FireScope Workbench
License: Freeware
|
|
| |
FireScope Workbench is a collection of free tools designed to make life easier for IT operators. This version currently includes a Service Modeler with dependency discovery and MIB browser and MIB walker combined, with additional tools being developed that will seamlessly plug into the interface to expand its capabilities. FireScope Workbench is built using Java Standard Widget Toolkit (SWT), enabling it to periodically check for updates and deliver single-click installation of new features as they are published.
In addition to using FireScope Workbench as an independent application, it can connect with the FireScope Business Service Management (BSM) or FireScope Configuration Management (CMDB) solution to simplify configuration for rapid time to value.
The MIB (Management Information Base) Walker and Browser Tool collects information about your SNMP-enabled networked devices by walking the SNMP tree for a target device and polling the current value of every OID (Object IDentifier) the device supports.
Recently added Ping Sweep utilities can scan large IP ranges in seconds, with DNS lookup of responding hosts.
Once you've walked a device, you can create real-time graphs of the value of any OID or you can export the walk to an XML file. This file can then be uploaded to FireScope BSM to be added as a managed asset.
The Service Modeler component in FireScope Workbench enables you model your IT Services in an easy to use interface that includes discovery capabilities to do all the legwork for you. Simply create your Service Group containers and scan your network to begin mapping your IT Services and their dependent networked assets.
Once you've built your service model, an export to XML function provides a standards-compliant format for importing into Visio or any other network visualization tool, or into any monitoring and management solution that supports XML import, which includes FireScope BSM and CMDB products.

ManageEngine OpStor Free Edition
License: Freeware
|
|
| |
OpStor is an integrated storage network-monitoring tool offering fault recording, performance measuring, inventory and business reporting functions through a simple web client. SAN fabric switches, RAIDs, Tape Libraries, HBA and Host servers from popular vendors, such as Brocade, McData, NetApp, Hitachi, StorageTek, ADIC, Qlogics, etc., are managed via SNMP and other protocols.
OpStor auto discovers storage devices using In-band, Out-of-band, and vendor specific algorithms. All the device properties are collected and the devices along with their sub-components are modeled.
Administrators can rely on OpStor for reports on alarms, performance, utilizations, inventory, trends, etc. from their storage networks.
Proactive fault management captures traps, sensor faults, and Status Change Notifications; correlates; and reports them to administrators through e-mail or SMS messages. For example, OpStor manages more than 80 system-level fault conditions from NetApp devices, more than 40 from ADIC, and so on. Apart from alarm escalation options, daily and weekly reports are sent to the administrators on storage infrastructure health.
OpStor does periodic status polling and collects data on performance and utilization. This data is stored in the database and used to generate performance, utilization, and availability reports for all the storage devices and its sub components. OpStor also generates reports on Top N available and performing devices.
OpStor allows plotting of real-time graph with live, SNMP-based, non-intrusive, Fibre Channel port level data collected from fabric switches. These are useful for troubleshooting at the port-level.
Up-to-date device inventory is maintained and reports are generated on device location, device vendors, alarm distribution, problem tickets, etc. All the reports can be saved as pdf or printed for future reference.
With all the features required for a SME storage administrator, OpStor comes to you at an affordable cost.

Understanding bandwidth and resource consumption is the key to better network management: Avoid bandwidth and server performance bottlenecks; Find out what applications or what servers use up your bandwidth; Deliver better quality of service to your users by being proactive; Reduce costs by buying bandwidth and hardware according to actual load. The Freeware Edition of PRTG Traffic Grapher is completely free for personal and commercial use and may be downloaded for free. PRTG Traffic Grapher is designed to run on a Windows machine in your network for 24 hours every day, and constantly records the network usage parameters. The recorded data is stored in an internal database for later reference. Using an easy to use Windows interface you can configure the monitored sensors as well as create usage reports. For remote access PRTG Traffic Grapher comes with a built-in web server to provide access to graphs and tables. All common methods for network usage data acquisition are supported: SNMP: Simple Network Management Protocol is the basic method of gathering bandwidth and network usage data. It can be used to monitor bandwidth usage of routers and switches port-by-port as well as device readings like memory, CPU load etc. Packet Sniffing: With its built-in Packet Sniffer PRTG can inspect all network data packets passing the network card to calculate the bandwidth usage. NetFlow: The NetFlow protocol is supported by most Cisco routers to measure bandwidth usage.
