Mouse as magnifier, color dropper and distance analyser. MouseZoom is a nice small and free utility. It zooms the current mouse position (up to 50x) and shows the color value (RGB, HEX, HLS, CMYK) and the absolute and relative position of the point where the mouse is. MouseZoom is available in English and German language (auto detect). That software doesn't record activities, doesn't require runtimes, doesn't require installation, doesn't write to the registry, doesn't modify files outside of its own directories, isn't adware.

Medieval CUE Splitter
License: Freeware

CUE Splitter is a freeware tool that split a single big audio track, mostly an album or a compilation, into the relative individual audio tracks, using informations contained in the associated "CUE" file. Sometimes you can find a big compressed audio file (for example MP3, APE, FLAC, OGG, WAV, WMA, etc...) equipped with a small "CUE" text file that contain informations about tracks title, artist and length. Usually these couple of files are generated by programs like EAC (Exact Audio Copy), CDRWin, BPM Studio, GoldWave or similar. With CUE Splitter you can split audio track files without burning to CDR or decode/re-encode any audio data! Moreover audio files are automatically named using a user-defined "file mask" string, it's tags are filled with information extracted from "CUE" file and, optionally, an M3U playlist file can be generated (option enabled by default). If you like this software and you wish contribute, feel free to make us a PayPal DONATION: take a look at the about form...

The utility shows relative size of all elements (both files and directories) in a directory on disk using columnar diagram. It allows you quickly to estimate how many space a file or subdirectory occupies on parent directory and how space is distributed among the directory's elements.
You can also:
- change parent directory
- view files' meta-data (creation date etc)
- select sort order (by size and name)
- select linear, logarithmic and root scale of diagram columns
- view size in bytes, Kbytes and Mbytes.
The utility uses color coding to present size information, so bigger elements will be indicated with red and smaller one with green. It supports also localization so you'll be able to make it speaking your native language.
In addition, the utility saves parameters of its appearance between sessions and can be controlled with command line parameters.

Triaxes StereoMeter is used to calculate the optimum stereo base for making stereo photos. Stereo base - the distance between positions for taking the left and right photos or between leftmost and rightmost frames in multi-frame series. The size of the stereo base plays the key role in creating a stereo photography.
For calculation of the stereo base you need to define the relative position of objects in the scene, method of taking a stereo photo, camera parameters and how the final stereo photo will be viewed.
StereoMeter takes into account all these parameters and recommends: the best position of objects in the scene and the optimal stereo base to obtain good stereo effect.

Input Director
License: Freeware
|
|
| |
Input Director is designed for those folks that have two (or more) Windows systems set up at home. Using Input Director, you can position the monitors of your systems side-by-side and then control all of them via one keyboard/mouse. To transition which system you're controlling is as simple as moving the cursor off the screen on one system and it'll pop up on the next screen (similar to a multi-monitor setup) or via a hotkey combo.
Input Director also lets you share clipboard contents, so you can copy from one machine, switch over to another and then paste. This also works for files that are in network shared directories.
New features include:
* Slaves and the master can display a semi-transparent informational window that indicates which system currently has the cursor
* Can simulate Ctrl-Alt-Delete on a slave system
* Can synchronise locking some or all slaves with the Master
* Can synchronise a slave's screensaver with the Master's
* Can shutdown all (or a subset of) slaves from the Master
* Can control a locked slave
* Can control the UAC dialog box on a Vista slave
* Hotkeys can be used to relative jump to the next left or right system

Sync is a simple command-line utility for performing one-way directory or file synchronization.
It synchronizes the specified target to match the specified source. Only the target is modified.
Runs on any OS with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE 6+).
Sync is free and open source software written in Java and released under the GNU GPL license (version 3).
MAIN FEATURES:
* FLEXIBLE FILE-MATCHING: Match files by combinations of name, size, last-modified time, and CRC-32 checksum; by default, (name, size, time,CRC) are used.
* FLEXIBLE FILE TIME COMPARISON: Specify a time-tolerance (in milliseconds) when matching files by their last-modified time.
* FILENAME FILTER: Use a GLOB or REGEX filter for file/directory names, or their full (relative) pathnames.
* SIMULATION MODE: Sync can be run to simulate file operations, so that the target directory is not modified.
* UNATTENDED USAGE: With an appropriate choice of switches, Sync can be executed without user intervention.

ShiftN
License: Freeware
|
|

Converging lines in photographs, particularly of buildings, forests and so on, can often detract from the desired effect. Architectural elements in photographs often have diagonal lines, but the mind thinks of buildings as having vertical and horizontal lines. Converging lines are caused by the film-plane being angled relative to the object of the photo, and that effect can be avoided optically by the use of either a shift lens (quite expensive) or the use of a medium or large-format view camera having swing features. With a shift lens, the lens itself is shifted perpendicularly to the z-axis, so that the film level can remain parallel to the subject. Shift lenses are mechanically and optically more complex than standard lenses, which is why they are comparatively expensive. Often, one is shooting with a "point and shoot" camera, where the option of changing lenses does not exist. The advent of digital photography or scanning existing photos from prints opens up new possibilities for manipulating the picture. Here is where ShiftN shows its strength.
ShiftN permits correction of converging lines; a majority of the correction work is taken over automatically by the program. Using the "automatic correction" item in the menu is in most cases sufficient to produce a satisfying result. Both the effects of converging lines and poor camera angle are corrected automatically.
The process in ShiftN is to search the image first for straight lines and edges, and to consider those which are sufficiently vertical to be likely architectural elements. On the basis of these straight line segments the program runs an optimization process that attempts to determine perspective, correcting the image so the lines are made parallel to each other.

ZipSnap
License: Freeware
|
|
| |
Ever wished there was an easy way to backup multiple versions of your files, or quickly synchronize them across different computers (even on different operating systems) so that you always work with the most recent copies? ZipSnap can help you with that!
ZipSnap creates archives that are collections of point-in-time snapshots. An archive is just a directory of catalogs (plain text files compressed as ZIP files) and compressed volumes (ZIP files). When a snapshot is added to an archive, a new compressed volume is created, containing only new or modified files and directories. A catalog is used to store information on the snapshots and contents of the archive. Files are automatically numbered with a timestamp. Runs on any OS with the Java Runtime Environment (JRE 6+). ZipSnap is free and open source software written in Java and released under the GNU GPL license (version 3).
MAIN FEATURES:
* ZipSnap creates archives that are collections of point-in-time snapshots. An archive is just a directory of catalogs (plain text files compressed as ZIP files) and compressed volumes (ZIP files).
* Catalogs are written cumulatively, i.e. a later catalog contains all the information from previous catalogs. Therefore, only the latest catalog is needed when adding/restoring snapshots.
* Catalogs and compressed volumes are automatically timestamped as ArchiveName.yyyyMMdd-HHmmss.n, with extensions .txt.zip and .zip respectively, where n is the snapshot number.
* Because ZipSnap never modifies a catalog or compressed volume after it is created, archives can be stored on write-once-only media.
* ZipSnap supports GLOB and REGEX filters for file/directory names, or their full (relative) pathnames.

Virtual Network Computing++
License: Freeware

Virtual Network Computing is a great client/server software package that allows remote network access to graphical desktops and it's available on most platforms.
VNC++ can be used to perform remote control and administration tasks in Windows. It can be very helpful in distance learning and remote customer support. It is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer (the "server") using a simple program (the "viewer") on another computer anywhere on the Internet. The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home. VNC is freely and publicly available and is in widespread active use by millions throughout industry, academia and privately. For the individual user, one common scenario is using VNC to help troubleshoot the computer of a distant less-technically-savvy relative. In other words, sitting at your desk in Baltimore, you could use VNC to take control of your mother's PC in London and show her how to install and use some new software package by actually doing it yourself. For the business user, VNC can be used to provide a flexible hot-desking and road-warrior environment by allowing employees to access their office desktop and server machines from any machine in the company's offices or from other remote sites, regardless of the type of computers involved at either end. An equally popular business application of VNC is in remote system administration, where VNC is used to allow administrators to take control of employee machines to diagnose and fix problems, or to access and administer server machines without making a trip to the console.VNC can also be used in educational contexts, for example to allow a distributed group of students simultaneously to view a computer screen being manipulated by an instructor,or to allow the instructor to take control of the students' computers to provide assistance.
