Summon the Screensaver
License: Freeware
|
|
| |
You can invoke the screensaver or locks the workstation instantly without the need of complex key/mouse inputs. Just place the mouse cursor at one of the corners of your desktop, say some magic words in your heart and your screensaver will be summoned immediately to your screen!
You can disable the screensaver at any time you want, for example, while watching movies/animations in window mode, playing games in window mode with a joypad, long-duration installation, up/downloading big files, burning disc.
It can also detect, in real-time, the state of the screensaver automatically, so that you could know whether the screensaver is active or has been temporarily disabled by some programs.

PowerClick is small utility that provide you with fast access to, all commonly used, power managment features available in Windows. Those are shutdown, restart, standby, hibernate, log off and station lock. Some people (like the author it self) sometimes hate to bother, to shutdown or restart system the regular way. This is usually the case when large number of applications are running but only the quick shutdown or restart is needed. Windows will refuse to close is some programs are running, so you would have to close every application, one at the time, which can be quite annoying. With PowerClick you can force all programs to close before shutdown or restart, which is sometimes quite usefull. You don't have to wait until all programs are closed, you can invoke shutdown and leave the desk with assurance that system will be properly turned off. It is all done automatically. Similiar programs exists, but some of them are as big as one megabyte or even more, which is absolutely unnceessary overhead for such an simple application! Lets keep it small and simple. Just click it and leave it!

Instant ThumbView Free Edition
License: Freeware

| |
There are a lot of graphics applications in the world. Some of them allow you to browse the contents of an entire folder. But you have to start the program to browse and view any individual file. In the latest Windows versions Explorer can be switched into the Thumbnail view too. That is fine. But it can be a pain, if you are looking for one small image or just have to look at couple of files.
Instant ThumbView gives you a solution. It is an instant image viewer that displays thumbnail (reduced picture), of selected image in a popup window next to the mouse pointer. It supports a lot of popular image file formats, including BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, WMF, ART, DIB, etc.
As Instant ThumbView is a Windows Explorer extension, it is always ready and available to use. To invoke it, just toggle the SCROLL LOCK indicator on, and then hover an image file with your mouse in the Explorer's window.
You will see the tooltip saying 'Extracting Thumbnail...', and then the image thumbnail should be displayed as shown on the screenshot.

ProfileLink
License: Freeware

ProfileLink is an application designed to help laptop users easily use their computer at different locations. When using a laptop computer at different locations, e.g. office, home and travelling may require the user to make different kinds of selections when launching applications. When the user logs on to the computer ProfileLink will start automatically and launch the applications that the user has assigned to the current hardware profile. ProfileLink will also set up the users default printer depending on hardware profile. If the user changes the default printer ProfileLink will register this and use this setting the next time the user logs on using the same hardware profile. As an example we can take a look at how to use a mail client. E.g. when using the computer in the office the user will normally use the company’s mail server, but when using the computer at home or while travelling the user might use the mail server of some ISP. Prior to ProfileLink there ware several ways to accomplish this, but none of them ware fully automatic. One way to do it could be to let the user select the profile when the mail client was launched, another could be to create a number of batch files that the user could invoke depending on his or her current location. The last method we will mention here is one that seems to be widely used and it relies on creating multiple user-accounts for the same user and letting the user select the account matching the location, e.g. Lisa would have three accounts, Lisa (Office), Lisa (Home) and Lisa (Travelling). The problem with this solution is that if Lisa installs a new program in the office account it will not be available in the two other accounts. With ProfileLink it is possible to configure which parameters a specific application should be launched with depending on the current location. Instead of using different user-accounts for the same user ProfileLink relies on multiple hardware profiles.
