The Autorun.inf Editor is a program that can be used to quickly and easily create autorun CD autorun.inf files. An autorun.inf file is a required file when creating an autorun CD. When a CD is put into the drive, the operating system looks for the autorun.inf file. If the file exists, it reads the file and then knows how to "autoplay" the CD. There are a number of things you can do with an autorun.inf file.
The Autorun.inf Editor was created as a free utility to make it easy for people to generate their own autorun.inf files. With the editor you can create an autorun.inf file that can:
-Set a label for the CD (this label will be displayed in My Computer and Explorer on a Windows computer)
-Set an icon for the CD
-Specify a program on the CD (or user's computer) to run when the CD is inserted
-Add entries and commands to the context menu for when a user right-clicks on the CD

ShellRun

ShellRun is a program that will display a web page when your CD is inserted into a Windows computer. ShellRun can alternatively display a PDF file, Word document, MP3 file or any other document. AutoRun works in Windows only.
ShellRun displays a small pop up window and then attempts to run the appropriate viewer program to show your file. For example, for a web page, ShellRun asks Windows to start the default browser to display the web page.
Put the ShellRun.exe runtime on your CD along with a suitable AUTORUN.INF file. Remember to print manual instructions on your CD for users who have AutoRun disabled, or for those who have other sorts of computer.
ShellRun can also be run from a command line prompt or using Start+Run to display a file or URL.
The development kit has an install/uninstall facility. The development kit also contains an article describing how to put a web site on CD, i.e. produce HTML CDs.
The retail version lets you customize or remove the ShellRun pop up window, and determines what to do if a suitable viewer program is not available.

CD FrontEnd allows you to create an autorun / autoplay / autostart / autoinstall CD presentation. A self running catalogue, a brochure, a depliant, a software collection, Acrobat PDF files, MP3, PowerPoint PPT PPS, Word DOC, Wordperfect, AutoCAD DXF, Corel CDR, video, MPEG, MOV, AVI, pictures, any stuff. The end user simply inserts the CD, then in a full screen window a Web-like presentation is shown. Inside it you can include any buttons you want: you can launch documents, PDF, self extracting exe files (you can place them anywhere - and... the CD won't ask any confirmations when the end user clicks!), you can show licenses, additional info, etc. You can insert video, music, hot spots, slides, frames, popup windows... and enable or disable the full screen. A powerful full-text search engine is automatically available to the end user, just in case you plan to create a very large CD... say... a new version of the Bible...!
All or part of the presentation pages can be protected with password(s), even different passwords for different users (the CD is always the same, just the passwords change): the encoding is strong, 128bit secure. You can also forbid print and copy (clipboard copy and also print screen), and setup an expiry date.
The LITE edition supports up to 20 pages or 1MB.
No hassles, no configuration files, no browsers are needed: the CD will perfectly work on all PCs, even if a browser is not correctly installed or if they use Opera or Firefox instead Explorer. No code, programming or HTML: you don't need to be a technician. All is visual and the PDF manual is simple and concise, in case you need it.
CDFrontEnd PRO removes the size limits of the LITE; CDFrontEnd GOLD includes several additional features including Flash support, forms and internal shopping cart (very handy when you create a CD catalogue for your business / shop / firm).

Launches any program for inserted CD - just associate program(s) to launch with your CD.
You need not anymore for the one program launching from CD's "autorun.inf" file: when your desire changes, - change the program(s) to launch.
For foreign CD-s (which are not in the 'CD Match' database) , 'CD Match' can :
- collect files by their extensions for the inserted (or presented) CD-s, and offer to launch from collected - just define what (video, archives, applications) to collect.

- It works by scanning the drives for the presence of removable drives.
- If found, it parses the autorun.inf file for the executables it may run.
- If AutoProtect is enabled, it will automatically delete the files present on the drive.
otherwise, you will be asked if you want the suspected files deleted.
In general a USB drive of any kind, a pendrive, ipod, mp3 Players, mobile phones, all
may contain viruses, they just act as carriers, the viruses/trojans exploit the autorun.inf file
to execute themselves whenever you try to open the drive by double clicking. They even may
shadow the Open, Explore, Search, etc, other features using the shell commands.. like..
shellExplorecommand = virus.exe
Here, when you right click on the drive icon and click on Explore, virus.exe would be launched,
infecting the whole system, and then it will start spreading by any means possible...
- So, the program parses the autorun.inf for you and deletes the virus/trojans.
There is no use of the autorun.inf in you removable drive. (It is rarely used by some applications to provide some added functionality, like the Wireless Config tool to help setup a home network.
But, the applications are limited.) , you can safely delete it.
